The Fantastic Four are among the most iconic names in Marvel Comics, alongside the likes of Spider-Man, the Hulk, and the X-Men. Yet when it comes to adaptations, Mister Fantastic, The Invisible Woman, The Human Torch, and The Thing have had a rough go of it. Until the recent release of
The Fantastic Four: First Steps
, the team had never had a positively received feature film. Due to the complex nature of the characters' powers, they could not be properly adapted into live-action television like Spider-Man or the Hulk.

A 2006 animated adaptation of Marvel's First Family: The Fantastic Four, meant to market the team to a new audience who were coming off the 2005 movie and heading into its 2007 sequel (which probably ended up working against the show during its initial broadcast), produced by French animation firm Moonscoop. The name "World's Greatest Heroes" refers to the comics' original tagline, "World's Greatest Comic Magazine".

The series as a whole was Lighter and Softer, focusing much more on the Fantastic Four as a sitcom family who happened to go on adventures rather than a team of superheroes who were also a family.

FANTASTIC FOUR follows the superheroic efforts of four friends and family members to rid the world of evil. When scientist Richard Reed flew his inadequately shielded space ship through cosmic rays, he had no idea of the lasting effects that were in store for him and his wife, brother-in-law, and friend. In no time, the four developed extraordinary abilities, adopted new names, and took it upon themselves to protect Earth from enemies of all kinds. Richard's new abilities allow him to stretch to great lengths, so he dubs himself Mr. Fantastic (voiced by Hiro Kanagawa). His wife, Susan Storm -- The Invisible Woman (Lara Gilchrist) -- can disappear and create protective shields around her friends. Her brother, Johnny, is known as The Human Torch (Christopher Jacot) and uses his body to generate flames that propel him into the air. But it's Richard's buddy, Ben Grimm, who suffers the most noticeable changes from the accident, which leaves him massive, muscular, and covered with the rough, orange skin that inspires his alias -- The Thing (Brian Dobson).
