Staten Island Little League team competes in World Series
It’s a young baseball player’s dream to make it to the Little League World Series, and this year, a team from Staten Island has achieved that milestone.
On Thursday, the 12-year-old division of the South Shore Little League faced a team from Nevada in Game 1 of the series. Ahead of the game, Mayor Eric Adams spoke to the hopefuls.

Little leaguers from Staten Island gathered at a watch party to cheer on their friends playing in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
“It’s a great experience. Like, ‘Oh, they're going to have so much fun. They get a bunch of free stuff.’ And I think that if they just play their game, they might have a shot,” said Little League player Aj Eugenio.
Eugenio, who plays for South Shore’s 11-year-old division, said he hopes to make it to the World Series next year.

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.
-- Staten Island's South Shore Little League team has been eliminated from the 2024 Little League World Series.
They had been representing the United States' Metro Region.
In their first game, Staten Island lost 9-1 to the Paseo Verde Little League team from Henderson, Nevada, but they stayed alive in the double-elimination tournament.
South Shore defeated Sioux Falls, South Dakota 6-3 on Saturday and Hinsdale, Illinois 4-0 on Sunday.
Tuesday night, they lost 6-1 to Lake Mary Little League, from Little Mary, Florida.
"Congratulations to Staten Island's Little League team for making it all the way to the World Series! Your city is so proud of your hard work and dedication. We'll be rooting for you on and off the field in all that's yet to come!" Mayor Eric Adams wrote in a post on X.

– A Staten Island Little League team is heading to the World Series.
The South Shore Little League handed the Morristown Little League, from New Jersey, their first loss of the summer in Friday's Metro Region championship game, beating them 5-0. Peter Giaccio's two-run triple in the sixth capped off a week where he drove in nine runs in four games.
Staten Island improved to 17-2 this summer.
This is the South Shore Little League's fourth appearance in the Little League World Series.
In a post on Facebook, Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella said in part, "Continue to make more great memories, and to make Staten Island proud. We are all with you."
"It's a homerun for South Shore Little League! They're on their way to the Little League World Series, and we're all rooting for you," Mayor Eric Adams wrote on X.
