PDC World Darts Championship: usual suspects likely to dominate again
London's Alexandra Palace will host the PDC World Championship for the 11th successive year as a field of 72 players compete for a share of the £1.8m prize fund and the record £400,000 first prize. The highest profile event in darts, with the winner receiving the Sid Waddell Trophy, named in honour of the darts commentator Sid Waddell, who died in 2012.
Distinguished former champions Adrian Lewis, Gary Anderson and 16-time winner Phil Taylor – who is making a record 29th successive (and his final) appearance – will be among the favourites once again, while Michael van Gerwen is looking to retain the title he won last year. Other than Phil Taylor, who has dominated the competition (last winning it in 2013), there have only been seven other champions in the competition's history. The only other players to win it more than once are John Part (2003 & 2008), Adrian Lewis (2011 & 2012), Gary Anderson (2015 & 2016) and Michael van Gerwen (2014 & 2017), while the one-time winners are the inaugural champion Dennis Priestley and Dutchman Raymond van Barneveld (2007). The Paddy Power World Darts Championship is an annual tournament organised by the Professional Darts Corporation, or PDC.
First taking place in 1994, the tournament has been held at London's Alexandra Palace since 2008, beginning in December and ending in January.
The most prestigious of all The PDC's tournaments, Phil Taylor remains the most successful player by a clear margin, holding the title with 14 wins next to Michael Van Gerwen's second-place, at 3 wins.

FAQ FOR FANS
How many tickets can I buy?
Each eligible PDCTV Annual Member can purchase up to six tickets per session, for a maximum of two sessions.
When did tickets go on sale?
The initial ticket window opened to PDCTV Annual Members on Monday August 4 at 1200 BST and closed on Tuesday August 5 at 1159 BST.
What happens now?
Table and tier seat tickets for all 36 sessions of the World Darts Championship have now sold out.
As such, the previously advertised Public Ballot for any remaining tickets will now not take place.
